The Curriculum

At Moorcroft we have a broad and balanced Curriculum for all students.

In Key Stage 3 all students follow the National Curriculum,  That includes English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Design Technology, Information Technology, Food Technology, Religious Education, Modern Foreign Languages and PSHEC (Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship).  Our students, however, have very different needs and we adapted the curriculum to help them access it.

In Key Stage 4 students continue with National Curriculum subjects and also begin the Work Related Learning scheme.  Their achievements are recorded in a portfolio and at the end of Year 11 students receive the ASDAN Transitional Challenge Award.  They also begin the Towards Independence programme.  ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) is a Nationally accredited awards scheme and includes programmes for students of all abilities.

In Key Stage 5 students continue to study English, Maths, PSHEC, ICT, Design Technology and Religious Education.  They also follow a modular scheme which includes, Music, Science, Physical Education, Art, History and Geography.  Students also follow either the Bronze or the Towards Independence ASDAN awards schemes.  In Work Related Learning some students take part in simulated Work Experience, while others assist our Office, Kitchen and Premises staff.  A small group of students take part in External Work Placements.  Students in Year 14 take part in a link course at West Thames Collage for a day per week.  Our Connexions Officer helps to advise on placements for our students when they come to leave us.

We have Schemes of Work for all subjects and these are specially adapted to the needs of our students.  Have a look at our Sensory Stories page to see how we have adapted stories by Shakespeare and Chaucer to the needs of students with Severe Learning Difficulties.   We include a selection of our Schemes of Work below, and hope to add more later.

Feel free to use our schemes and adapt them to your own needs.  All we ask is that you Email us if you intend to use them.  All documents are in Microsoft Word format.   If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer the documents will appear within your own browser.  Just save them to disk or print them out.
