Home School Partnership

At Moorcroft we pride ourselves on good home / school relationships.  On these pages we give some suggestions of how you might help your child with their learning.  If you have any suggestions as to how we might improve this part of our website please feel free to email us.

Homework - teachers send homework for parents to complete with students each weekend.  This is a great way of helping your child develop the skills we are working on at school.  You may need to read a worksheet to your child, if it is difficult for them.  If your child is unable to write then you can discuss the work with them and answer the questions on their behalf.  Some students will write over letters written for them, while others will copy underneath.  If you have a computer at home, your child might find it easier to use a keyboard than a pencil.  For students with more complex learning difficulties we may send home some pictures to look at or tapes to listen to you, or we may suggest activities for you to do with your child at home.  Please look at our sensory stories page for ideas of how you might make a story come to life.  If you are not sure what to do when homework is sent home, please contact the teacher concerned.

Home school book - all students have a home school communication book.  For students who cannot communicate verbally or find it difficult to do so, we write in it each day.  We encourage students with good verbal communication to discuss their school day at home so we will write in their books at least once a week.  We also appreciate it when you write to us.  It is also helpful if you can tell us what students have done during the evening, weekends and holidays as we can talk to them about these activities and support them in their communication skills.  We also appreciate photographs of family, friends, bedroom and holiday activities.

Workshops - we run a number of workshops throughout the year to help parents participate in their child's education.  These may include Signalong training or Literacy and ICT workshops.  Details of forthcoming workshops will be included in the school newsletter.

Resources - please contact the school office if you want advice on obtaining resources to help your child with their learning.  For example, you may purchase Signalong books, Pecs resources, or computer software to help your child with their development.  Please check our links page for websites where you might be able to purchase resources for your child.
